The Civil War Memorial Park is located adjacent to Newport Historical Museum. The Battle of Newport Barracks occurred on February 2, 1864 with Confederate forces overtaking Union forces. The Union forces burned the Newport River railroad bridge and the road bridge as they retreated to Beaufort. We encourage you to visit the museum to learn more of our colorful history.
